Pregnancy is a beautiful phase in a women’s life. It is a period where you can put on weight and nobody comments on it. Isn’t that cool?? But does that mean we can eat how much ever we want to? No, more than the amount of intake, the food that we take is more important. This article is about healthy diet for Pregnancy

Let us start with the Foods to be avoided during Pregnancy.

  1. Raw Papaya:

Raw Papaya is one of the foods that need to be avoided in pregnancy. It is said that Papaya has something that may cause miscarriage. If you are someone who loves papaya, this time may be little difficult for you. Luckily, this is the only fruit that we should not take in these 9 months.

  1. Ajinomoto:

Ajinomoto is another item that we should not consume during pregnancy. Those who love Chinese food must resist yourself from having it in your pregnancy as they contain ajinomoto. Not just Chinese, these days most of them are adding ajinomoto to different kinds of foods to get good flavor Eg: KFC Chicken Popcorn. So, please avoid foods that contain ajinomoto.

  1. Unpasteurized Milk:

You need to avoid unpasteurized milk / Raw milk during pregnancy. Unpasteurized Milk contains harmful bacteria which is not safe to take in pregnancy. Please avoid raw milk in these 9 months.

As a matter of fact, you need to avoid all raw foods like Raw Meat, Raw Eggs and Raw Seafood.

  1. Outside Food:

It is better to avoid outside food and prefer homemade foods for healthy pregnancy.

  1. Caffeine:

You need not stop consuming caffeine completely but you need to reduce the intake of it. Please don’t take more than 1 or 2 cups of coffee/ tea in a day during pregnancy.

  1. Alcohol:

It is better to avoid consumption of alcohol in your pregnancy for your baby.

Every person is different and everyone’s experience is different. So, if you are allergic to any kind of food or if you throw up after eating any particular food, then you may avoid those items.

Foods for Healthy Pregnancy:

You need to take healthy diet for healthy pregnancy. You can enjoy your days of pregnancy with the varieties mentioned below. Before that, remember not to take anything in excess, always have a balanced diet.

  1. Calcium Rich foods:

Calcium rich foods are good for both mommy and baby. They help in strengthening mommy’s bones and building baby’s bones and teeth. Foods like Milk, Curd, and Cheese come under this category.

  1. Iron rich foods:

Iron rich foods are important during pregnancy. That is the reason why we are asked to take iron supplements. Even if we miss out foods that are rich in Iron in our diet we can get them through those tablets. Iron rich foods include Green leafy vegetables, beans, dry fruits etc.

  1. Protein rich foods:

Proteins during pregnancy are essential and improve baby growth and brain development. Nuts, Eggs, Poultry, Milk, Curd etc, can be taken for protein content.

  1. Fiber foods:

Foods with fiber are good to take in pregnancy. Oranges, apples, pears, berries, bananas, peas, sweet corn, and carrots have fiber content in them.

  1. Vitamin B12 Rich foods:

Vitamin B12 rich foods are also important during pregnancy. Foods like Fish, meat, Eggs are rich in B12. Its content is generally less in vegetarian foods. Cooked Sprouts, Milk and dairy products have good Vitamins B12 content in them.

Can everyone take all kinds of foods?

Those who are suffering from Diabetes, please avoid sugar and fruits that are sweet eg: Banana.

Those who have less Blood level need to include Colored fruits to their diet eg: Pomegranate, Supota.

If you have BP, then you need to lessen the consumption of salt. It is better you control yourself from eating Pickles, Papads etc.

You can eat all kinds of fruits (except papaya), vegetables, Dry Fruits, Nuts, Pulses, Cereals, Milk Products in your Pregnancy period (based on your comfort, if you are allergic to any of them you can avoid those).
