Travelling with Infants.

Travelling and visiting new places is fun for most of us out there. But did you ever travel with an infant? There are certain things to be considered while travelling with your baby. You need to pack extra stuff with you to enjoy your trip.

Our first vacation with our baby was to Singapore. He was 8 months old then. As it was an International trip there was a limit on luggage that we could carry. So, we had to think wise before packing baby’s things. Here I’m talking about the stroller. My baby’s stroller is a heavier one and it occupied half of the luggage limit. That is the reason why we could not add a stroller.

I have carried the below things for a pleasant vacation with our baby.

  1. First-Aid kit.
  2. Baby Carrier.
  3. Food Items.
  4. Sanitizer.
  5. Blankets.
  6. Sweater.
  7. Baby Soap, Lotion and Powder.
  8. Clothes.
  9. Diapers.
  10. Wet Wipes.
  11. Sippers and Feeding Bottles.
  12. Toys.
  13. Diaper Bag.

1. First-aid kit.

Always remember to carry a Medical kit whenever you are travelling with your baby. In case if you need some medication, you can’t go in search of it at that point of time, particularly in a foreign trip. Ask your pediatrician what all medicines you need to carry when you are planning for a vacation. Don’t forget to carry your pediatrician’s number with you.

2. Baby Carrier.

We took a baby carrier as we could not carry a stroller with us. To be frank we did not use it much as the baby’s weight falls completely on the person’s shoulders who is wearing it. It will be a little painful as we will be roaming around almost the whole day when we are on a trip. It is better to choose a light weight stroller to a baby carrier if you are planning for a trip.

3. Food Items.

One of the most essential things when you are going out for a week. I carried two varieties in Cerelac and a couple of varieties in Gerber Snacks for my baby. For mixing Cerelec I carried a set of disposable bowls and spoons. I used to buy bananas also to feed my baby.

Water is also an important thing. For a couple of days, I have carried boiled water from my home. Later we have purchased good company water bottles.

Carry the required amount of formula powder if your baby is formula fed.

4. Sanitizer.

Hand Sanitizer is very important. It helps in keeping your hands hygienic before feeding your baby.

5. Blanket.

Whatever may the mode of transport be, blanket is an essential thing.

6. Sweater.

We need to pack certain things based on the season. We travelled in the end of January. For us it was a must to carry a sweater. But otherwise also it is good to carry one while travelling with an infant. Just to be safe J.

7. Baby Soap/ Baby Lotion and Baby Powder.

You can’t keep changing the brand of your baby’s products, especially the skin care products. Carry the brands that you regularly use. If you are flying, make sure the lotion and the powder don’t contribute to much of the weight.

8. Clothes.

This is the basic and a definite thing any parent would pack. Just make sure you pack good number of clothes and you don’t fall in shortage of them. Also, include towels, napkins, socks and shoes.

9. Diapers.

I carried nearly 40 pieces of diapers for a week. You can also plan accordingly based on the number of days of your trip.

10. Wet wipes.

I’m sure mommies know its importance. So, you definitely have to include this in your checklist. You can carry multi-purpose wipes so that you can clean your baby’s hands frequently.

11. Sippers and Feeding bottles.

I carried 4 sippers and a 4 of feeding bottles. I knew I will not get a chance to sterilize bottles there so I carried extra sippers and feeding bottles.

12. Toys.

As a mommy, we can easily understand what our baby’s favorite toys are. So, I have picked a few of his favorite light weight toys to keep him engaged at times. You can use multi-purpose wipes to clean your baby’s toys.

13. Diaper Bag.

You can pack all the required stuff for that day in a diaper bag. Diaper changing sheet is a must to be. You can pack a couple of extra clothes and diapers, wipes, toys, sippers, napkins and towel in the diaper bag.

It is always better to pack your baby’s things separately so that you need not keep searching for things when required.

If you think I have missed any other essentials apart from the above-mentioned list, you may let us know through comments.
